In the 90s you could torrent literally every game and a lot of people would do it, so I was wondering if torrenting is still a thing or if most games are somehow protected nowadays or if people have moved away from torrenting in general. Programmer Bram Cohen, a former University at Buffalo student, deed the protocol in April and released the first available version on 2 July.
There's a channel on youtube called Overlord Gaming that recently did an interesting video on the whole cracking sceneand the standards they try to hold themselves to.
Rules like you can't use a demo executable as a way of cracking etc. They've actually done a of videos on the topicit's a really interesting watch.
In short the whole cracking scene is still very much alive today, which means there are cracked games being downloaded. OP is a kid who equates all forms of piracy to torrenting. It doesn't matter.
Best sites to download torrents from
In alot of 3rd world countries, torrenting is the way to go. Most stores sell cracked games as it's the norms and has always been. The prices for legit games are just way too much for the average monthly income here, a new game costs around a third of the average monthly income. And store sellers barely reduce the price no matter how old the game is you can find better prices if you know where to look though. Also, in my country, all international transactions are blocked from consumers, to protect the falling currency.
So Steam and the likes are just not an option unless you're one of those who has an uncle living in a foreign country. Or I just wait for some huge sale and buy the games anyway. Now, that practice i thought was definitely dead. Trends showing game torrents reddit heavy rise since egs started with exclusives.
Torrents didn't exist to my knowledge in the 90s. I certainly remember pulling down games in 15mb rar files from message boards and AOL. Often with compressed music, and fmv scenes. Some even removed fmv scenes and other things altogether to get the size down.
The scene still exists. It's just not worth it. You used to get a more premium experience pirating games over buying them. Even when buying games it just made sense to use cracked exe's. Now we have steam and other digital platforms. We all have more games then we could ever play. I sure don't miss those old days.
I got out some time around the s when games started needing drive emulation to run. Such a pain in the ass. Patching games even when you owned them was such an ordeal. The biggest sites made you wait in a queue just to download patches.
Multiplayer games being handled by GameSpy was the worst. That stirred up some shitty memories. Waiting in a queue for an hour and a half before you can even start downloading was painful. Some of those had to be just a way to get people to subscribe to their premium downloading service where you don't have to game torrents reddit. At least that's what I would think as I begrudgingly waiting. It's starting to make sense to use cracked exe again.
With things like denuvu, the cracked exe is a lot smaller, opens fatser and preforms better in at least some games. Of course it's probably not so bad as it used to be but now with EGS There's an old post which compares how many times were downloaded certain games.
